Farnborough, Hampshire
During the cold snap… yeah, that one when it got really cold (brrr!), we were out installing signs as usual… This time in glorious Farnborough in Hampshire.
The task was to refresh the graphic on this rather tired looking 48 sheet billboard.
We chose the spiritflex system. A good sign solution for external or internal use. Kind of similar to a flexface system but waaaay cheaper, to create a flat and smooth finish without having to strip away all the old boards underneath, and give a clean, crisp “just like new” finish. Once the system is in place you also have the flexibility to change graphics easily, just like a traditional billboard
We initially installed a treated timber frame to square up the existing timber work and make good. Then install the low profile Aluminium frame.
Next step is to install the flexible pvc graphic. The joy of this method is that the “skin” is flexible and in one piece and looks like a solid panel when tensioned. Much nicer than tiling individual panels together and pinning through the face (as you can see by the original that we covered up… its a bit ugly that way).
We start by pinning the graphic up to ensure its even and level and then we start to install the tensioning strips opposite each other so to achieve an even tension across the face. This take a bit of time to get right but once it does the finish is like a tight drum skin and looks fantastic.
This is a great option when looking to achieve a very large, flat, one piece graphic on a small budget. and lets face it…we’re all trying to look after the pennies!
